ABOUT AGRICULTURE EXHIBITION IN INDIA

Agriculture remains the backbone of India’s economy, with more than 54% of rural households relying on it as their primary source of livelihood. Agriculture, along with fisheries and forestry, is a major contributor to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). As per recent estimates, agriculture and allied sectors contributed 18.8% of the Gross Value Added (GVA) during 2022-23.

India is a global leader in agriculture, being the largest producer, consumer, and exporter of spices. The country’s fruit production is also noteworthy, making India the second-largest fruit producer worldwide. In 2022-23, India’s horticulture output, including fruits, vegetables, and spices, was estimated at 341.63 million tonnes (MT). The agriculture sector is a critical component of India’s exports, contributing around 11% to the country’s total exports, with agricultural commodities being the fourth-largest exported category.

India’s agro-industry spans diverse sectors, including canned foods, dairy, processed foods, frozen goods, fisheries, meat, poultry, and food grains. The Ministry of Agriculture, through the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, is responsible for developing the sector, overseeing various bodies such as the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to foster growth across allied agricultural industries.
